Changes in Football

I found a cool clip on YouTube about some technological changes in the game of football.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=cOgEN35DVOg

There are 3 examples from this video. The first is this awesome temperature pill that can catch players temperatures rising too steadily before they reach the point of no return. Any idea if our players use these after the death of a future player 5-6 years ago?

The next one is the use of shaded contact lenses. As you will see, some can be used to look through the glare of the sun, while others are used to just see the ball better (i.e. for golf). Do you think this ruins the spirit of the game if some poeple arent effected by the sun while others cant see at all looking up?

The last one is the use of simulations for quarterbacks. Every team they play is embedded into the system down to the numbers and skin colors of every single player. Must be incredible to use for the QBs who break their foot during Spring drills...

These examples are pretty cool. During our two-a-days our trainers do give these temperature pills to the players. I believe these pills have really helped with heat exhaustion that happens to players.

I don't think the contact lenses really ruin the spirit of the game. I think it's funny that they allow those, but not the infamous "LT mask." I guess it really is up to the coach if wants his players to use them. What happens though when your contact messes up after something gets in your eye during play? Your fault for wearing them.

The video game simulation is great for players who are injured as well as for ones who aren't. This is also good for second string QB's so they can learn plays and what not. I wonder how long this one has been around...

I had no idea those pills existed, what a fantastic idea. The name of the UF player that died was Eraste Autin, a freshman fullback participating in voluntary summer workouts, and it was in 2001. You may also remember that soon after that, Vikings O-Lineman Korey Stringer passed away because of heat stroke as well. It also claimed Orioles pitcher Steve Bechler 2 years later. Not to mention the fact that I spent 3 nights in the hospital because of heat stroke in 2000. This innovation was long overdue, but kudos to whomever got it done.

These contact lenses seem like nothing more than advanced eye black, so it seems alright to me. LT isn't allowed to have that tinted mask anymore? Where was I when this happened?

I don't like this video game simulation nonsense. I don't care if it accurately depicts Brian Urlacher as a white guy or Derrick Brooks as wearing the number 55, there's no substitute for the real thing. And in the case, I feel like it could even be detrimental. The backup QB thinks he's good to go after spending 400 hours in the simulator and then a defense doesn't react the way he expects and he gets knocked on his ass. All of a sudden, he's doubting the simulator and all that time has been wasted.
